How to Book Cheap Flight Tickets
We have all experienced the tiresome, repeated searching for the lowest possible airfare to the given destination, and the frustration seeing the price for the itinerary jumping up $100 overnight before booking the flight. With the constant fluctuating price and numerous travel websites out there, the options for booking cheap flights can be overwhelming. We would like to share some tips that can save your time, money and frustration.
Do Not Repeat the Search Too Many Times
If you keep searching the same route for specific dates, it signals the airfare pricing engine that the route is in high demand and may trigger a price jump. After many repeated searches you may be shown a higher airfare. This is more likely when travel dates are far out in the future.
Trick: Keep the number of searches low. In most cases, you do not need search every 5 minute to catch the lowest price. Only repeat the search when necessary.
Use a Different Browser or Device
Your search history can be tracked by a "cookie" placed on your browser or your device IP address. You may be shown a higher airfare if the price engine senses that you are particularly interested in a specific route.
Trick: Switch to a different browser or computer or device to search for the flight.
Fly Out on the Cheapest Day
Many airline websites offer weekly or monthly airfare view. If you are flexible with your travel dates, view airfare for the entire week or month and find out the cheapeast day to fly out and return.
Fly Budget Airlines
Budget airlines offer significant savings over their full-service counterparts. You get fewer perks, but you can save in price. Just be sure to watch out for hidden fees. Some budget airlines even charge for carry-ons, printing boarding pass at the airport, or advance seat assignments. There are a handful of budget airlines searving the US market: Allegiant Air, Southwest, Frontier, and Jetblue.
Take Advantage of Free Cancellation Within 24 Hours
All major U.S. airlines offer free cancellations within 24 hours provided you book your trip more than 7 days before your scheduled departure date. This is a policy required by US Department of Transportation. If you want to have more time to confirm with your travel companion or worry about the price going up in within the next day, you can book the flight. If the airfare drops below what you have paid for in next 24 hours, you can take advantage of free cancellation policy and rebook the flight.
